I am aware of the writer's position
grandmothers persist against death
and suppression   politicians speak
of bullets and deception    the singer
simply sings his last song to silence

  1. I always think, come the holocaust (or the meteorite or whatever) I'll go out scratching a last poem in the dirt with the nearest twig.
